How can people believe in ghosts and demons?
I was watching Animal Planet and their new "Haunted" show which has nothing to do with animals. Well whatever. They tried to say ghosts are real because the girl had scratches on her back and she couldn’t have done it herself and there is "NO WAY" that her mom or dogs could have done it. Therefore, it must be a ghost haunting the house. I’m so tired of this BS! Why does it still exist in the 21st century. And for those who say you can’t "prove" ghosts don’t exist, well I don’t have to because I did not make the claim that they do exist. IF you believe ghosts exist, then the burden of proof is on you. If you find that you have no evidence to explain your belief than you should be willing to change your belief. Please do not bring science into this either. For something to be science, like a ghost theory, or whatever, it must be falsifiable or verifiable. Yet since you cannot show evidence that ghosts do not exist, then ghosts cannot be considered under the umbrella of science. Furthermore, first hand accounts, eye witnesses, family stories, or any other sort of evidence that is orally passed from person to person is bullshit in my perspective. The mind is a powerful thing and can generate images or fantasies in the mind if given enough prodding, influence, or a good dose of hallucinogens. People embellish and change memories in their head and people can be influenced by pop culture such as ghost movies or whatever. An example of evidence for the existence of a ghost would be:
A large group of people, normal in the sense that they have no psychological illnesses or family history of illness, who see a "ghost" and there is video and photos and it was shown that there was no way that the photos could have been altered. The eye witness accounts all corroborate the others in terms of what happened and what was said. The people must be shown to not have been exposed to any drugs or other substances that could alter their perceptions and they must not be tired or lacking sleep. They must be educated and at least have a college degree or better on the basis that stupid people are stupid. There must be some sort of debriefing with experts reviewing the images and videos and intensely questioning the people that perceived the ghost. Last but not least, this must be repeated with similar results and extensive documentation and review.
There you have it: if someone were to pull this off with a different group of people in different areas each time suspected of a haunting and all of these lines of documenting were present and the results were similar and differed only slightly then you would have sound evidence of ghosts. But until then, I will not believe in ghosts, even if I experience something others would chalk up to being paranormal. I would not trust myself because there is no way to verify that what I was seeing was not influenced by many factors that would not distort my perceptions.
Basically, but what I’m saying is that people tell stories or show videos of flickering slights, weird sounds, pictures of scratches (more like evidence of domestic abuse), falling objects or whatever but fail to see that we have scientific explanations for such things like gravity. IF an object were to float in the air then this would be something else. But an object falling off of a shelf is ****ing stupid. Dogs barking at corners is also stupid. Dogs have GOOD hearing and there could be someone outside or rats in the wall. My dog barks at my lawnmower, does that mean that my lawnmower is possessed. NO, it means that dogs are dogs and dogs are stupid in that they cannot interpret reality from perceived threats. My dog is afraid of the remote control sometimes to. People, ghosts, demons, and other "paranormal" things are not real. And what I noticed about most people that see them is that they are quote unquote "stupid" or appear to be unintelligent. It’s easy to convince an unintelligent person of something because they are unintelligent: case in point.
Same goes for aliens. Next time your on a ship and your getting butt f**ked or anally probed, try to grab an alien condom or grab an ashtray or better yet grab a baby alien when you get back so scientists can study it in a lab and you will have evidence of aliens. Until then or until aliens reveal themselves publicly, I will not believe that aliens have ever visited Earth, but I do believe that other forms of life, possibly intelligent, exist elsewhere in the universe or even in the galaxy.
Personally, I believe that there is a paranormal, spiritual realm that our insignificant human minds cannot possibly perceive or comprehend. That said, I agree that those kinds of programs on television and other stories claiming alien sightings or haunted mansions are simply ridiculous. But I’m aware that there is just so much that I don’t know to rule anything out definitively. There could very well be angels, ghosts, Hell, nymphs, etc., but why would any of those things be concerned about me?

When I get scared at night, I believe demons are bothering me.
Only, that is probably just me.

Well, you say ghosts, aliens, and demons do not exist. I would agree that they do not exist on this physical realm. However, you give someone a dose of dimethyltryptamine, 7 out of 10 will see the same sort of "entities" in their hallucinations, despite not discussing it beforehand or having any sort of connection to one another. Non-Judeo-Christians will see "demons" and just about everyone will see "grey type aliens". Perhaps you are looking in the wrong place for your evidence. But then, if they do exist on some other plane of existence, do they really exist?
Is the plane of existence created by the interplay of your body and your cerebral cortex reality? Or is there something deeper as when the cerebral cortex is temporarily paralyzed and you think with other parts of your brain as with a DMT trip?
What about as your brain starts to die or misfire? Do you discount what schizophrenics see and hear just because you cannot? How do you know that your own brain is in top working condition and that what you see is really real? What if you are the schizophrenic, lost in your own little world, and others see you as delusional in the "real world"?
So much to contemplate about this thing we call the mind.
That being said, I have never seen a ghost, demon, or alien for myself.

go see a spiritualist. not one of the junkie ones you see with flashing neon signs downtown but an actual community, like lilydale, NY. don’t give him or her any information and see if she or he don’t start telling you in detail who is around you, what they are wearing and look like and telling you parts of your past and maybe warnings for your future. I bet you, you will be amazed.
that said, sometimes, hon, you just have to experience it yourself to believe it. millions of people who have had person contact around the world aren’t wrong. I myself saw an angel right before I miscarried. I was asleep. The alarm clock went off and i opened my eyes. she was kind of bent over me looking at me. about a half hour later the pain began. I husband is deceased. Every now and then as I’m taking snap shots of my kids he appears in the developed image. most of the time its blurry light..but there is one where his face is clearly scene with no blurriness.

Perception. I’d say that’s my answer. I’d say that if people want to believe in ghosts and they know all the facts, accept theories of gravity etc then there must be ghosts in existence - FOR THEM
I mostly believe in ghosts for reasons I won’t go into seeing as you consider them BS but I accept that you don’t believe and I’m not accusing you of being stupid, unintelligent, "a dog" or bullshit.
It’s not your argument I object to, it’s the criticisms of the other side but that aside, you do have some good points. People can be very flawed, deluded, tricked or simply mistaken. This I understand. A level RS does that to you. I also agree that the burden of proof lies with the believer and I believe that if someone could pull off those experiments it would be amazing.
However, people have their own reasons for believing in ghosts as much as you have reasons for not believing in ghosts. Belief is a matter of perception; once given all the information a choice can be made and that choice is whether to believe or not. Nobody can prove ghosts exist and nobody can prove they don’t.
As far as aliens are concerned I agree completely - except for the whole anal rape thing because that’s just disgusting and offensive.
So, I believe in ghosts, I’m looking at getting four A levels (including two sciences) and I’m looking at going onto uni - I’m not stupid or naive or (hopefully) deluded but I looked at the evidence and decided that I believed in ghosts. Your decision is your choice and although you make good points - you do kind of ruin it all with your last paragraph and all your stuff about stupidity and anal rape.
